The Minnesota Wild have signed defenceman Jake Middleton to a three-year contract, general manager Bill Guerin announced Wednesday. The contract is worth $7.35 million and carries an annual average value of $2.45 million.

Middleton, 26, was traded from the San Jose Sharks to the Wild ahead of the trade deadline in March.

In 21 games with the Wild, he notched five points and 35 blocked shots. Throughout the season with both the Sharks and the Wild, Middleton was ranked third in NHL rookies in blocked shots.

Middleton was drafted in the seventh round, 210th overall, by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2014 NHL Draft.
