The Minnesota Wild will be shorthanded when they open their second-round series against the Colorado Avalanche.
Defenceman Jonas Brodin will not travel with the team to Denver, head coach John Hynes told reporters Saturday (Game 1, Sunday, 9 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. MT, Sportsnet, Sportsnet+).
Forward Joel Eriksson Ek will be questionable to play Game 1 after suffering a lower-body injury in the first round against the Dallas Stars. Eriksson Ek went into the boards with his right leg going in first and needed to be helped to the bench.
Brodin left Game 5 against Dallas after taking a Mikko Rantanen shot off the foot early in the second period, and did not return. Brodin was reportedly spotted heading to the team bus on crutches after the game.
The injury forced the Wild captain to miss Game 6, with Jeff Petry coming into the lineup.
Minnesota earned its first playoff series victory in 11 years after eliminating Dallas in six games.
The Avalanche earned a first-round sweep over the Los Angeles Kings to reach the second round.
