SEATTLE — Ryan Winterton scored twice including a short-handed goal and the Seattle Kraken defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-2.
Joshua Mahura and Eeli Tolvanen also scored for Seattle (3-2-1), which jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the 15-minute mark of the opening period. Joey Daccord made 32 saves.
"I think the overall difference of the game was the special teams. They had two power-play goals and the shorthanded (goal) and we just had the one," head coach Kris Knoblauch told reporters after the game. "Overall, I thought it was a pretty good effort from our guys."
Darnell Nurse and Matt Savoie replied for Edmonton (4-2-1), which turned it into a 3-2 game entering the the final frame. Calvin Pickard made 13 saves on 17 shots.
"I thought we (the power-play unit) moved the puck around pretty well. A couple mishaps but I think that's just getting together as a unit," Savoie said post-game.
"(His goal) is to continue to improve every single game and by the end of the year I want to be a really big contributor here," he continued. "Game by game, just working to get better and better and show that I belong."
The Kraken went 2 for 6 with the man advantage, while Nurse scored the Oilers' lone goal on five power-play opportunities.
