Blackhawks sign Seth Jones to eight-year, $76M contract extension

Seth Jones is staying in Chicago long-term.

Shortly after the Blackhawks made a huge splash to acquire the star defenceman from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday, Jones agreed to sign an eight-year, $76-million contract extension to stay in the Windy City, per Sportsnet‘s Elliotte Friedman.

Jones has one year left on a six-year, $32.4-million deal so the extension will begin in the 2022-23 season.

Jones, the final pick of the first round in the 2021 NHL Draft and a sixth-rounder are heading to Chicago in the swap, while fellow defenceman Adam Boqvist, the 11th selection Friday, a second-rounder and a 2022 first-round pick are destined for Columbus.

Jones, 26, had 28 points in 56 games with the Blue Jackets last season.
