The Columbus Blue Jackets will be holding defenceman David Savard out of the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning as injury protection ahead of the trade deadline.

Savard, 30, is in the last year of a five-year, $21.25-million contract he signed with Columbus in 2015 and is expected to garner plenty of interest ahead of Monday’s 3 p.m. ET deadline.

The St. Hyacinthe, Que., native has played in 40 games for the Blue Jackets this season, scoring one goal and six points while averaging 19:38 minutes of ice-time.

Savard has spent his entire NHL career with Columbus after being selected by the Blue Jackets in the fourth round (94th overall) in the 2009 draft.
