Bruins’ Swayman replaced by Ullmark after allowing four goals

Watch as Florida Panthers defenceman Gustav Forsling scores a buzzer-beating goal, ripping a point shot through traffic against the Boston Bruins.

It was a rare night to forget for Jeremy Swayman.

Usually a force of nature between the pipes this post-season, Swayman looked mortal in Game 2 of the Bruins’ second-round series against the Florida Panthers.

He let in four goals on 23 shots, good for a 5.85 GAA and .833 save percentage, which led to a 4-1 deficit.

Swayman, 25, has been a force in the playoffs, racking up a ridiculous 1.42 GAA and .955 save percentage coming into this game. He hadn’t given up more than two goals per contest and carried a 5-1-1 record.

He kept up that form in the first period, but a goal from Steven Lorentz to open up the second, followed up by scores from Aleksander Barkov and a buzzer-beater by Gustav Forsling, sent him into the second intermission on the back foot.

His final straw came on a goal from Eetu Luostarinen at the 18:32 mark in the third period. It was a good look on the one-timer for the centre, but he shot the puck off Swayman before finding the back of the net on what could’ve been an easy stop for the Bruins goaltender.

Ullmark’s name was called for only the second time this post-season. He made his only start in Game 2 of the first-round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs and lost 3-2.

The second half of the Bruins’ fearsome tandem, Ullmark, had a steady regular season, earning a 22-10-7 record while notching a 2.57 GAA and .915 save percentage.
