Montreal Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin has been fined $5,000 by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Wednesday for cross-checking Dallas Stars‘ centre Tyler Seguin.

The fine is the maximum allowed under the current CBA.

With roughly eight minutes remaining in the third period of Tuesday’s game between the Stars and Canadiens, a scrum broke out after a faceoff between Drouin and Seguin. Drouin proceeded to cross-check Seguin to the back of the head and was assessed a major penalty upon a review from the referees.

The Canadiens went on to win in a 5-3 victory.
