Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price has returned to Montreal to undergo further treatment for his concussion, head coach Dominique Ducharme said Saturday.
The team does not expect Price, who had just returned to the Canadiens lineup last Saturday after missing six games with a lower-body ailment, will be back on the ice early next week.
“I can’t say there’s been much progress there,” Ducharme told reporters.
Price suffered the injury at the 12:01 mark of the first period during Monday’s 4-1 loss against the Edmonton Oilers, when Oilers forward Alex Chiasson made contact with him on a goal by Connor McDavid that was eventually disallowed due to a goaltender interference challenge. Price remained on the ice for the rest of the period, however backup goaltender Jake Allen came on to start the second period and played the remainder of the game.
This season, Price has a 12-7-5 record with a 2.64 goals-against average and .901 save percentage.
Ducharme did not indicate who the Canadiens starter against the Calgary Flames on Saturday or Monday would be.
In addition to being without Price, the Canadiens may continue to be without Jonathan Drouin as well.
Drouin, who was a late scratch in Friday’s game against the Calgary Flames due to a non-COVID-19 illness, was not feeling much better on Saturday, Ducharme said. Drouin has two goals and 23 points in 44 games this season.
