Canadiens sign defenceman Chris Wideman to one-year, $750K contract

Chris Wideman is returning to the NHL after signing a one-year, one-way contract worth $750,000 with the Montreal Canadiens, the club announced Wednesday.

Wideman spent the past season with the KHL’s Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo. The 31-year-old from St. Louis led all defenceman in the league with 41 points recording nine goals and 32 assists.

Drafted 100th overall in 2009 by the Ottawa Senators, Wideman last played in the NHL with the Florida Panthers during the 2018-19 season.
