Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux has not asked GM Chuck Fletcher for a trade, he told local reporters on Wednesday.

“I haven’t talked to Chuck yet about (trade deadline). Right now, I’m committed to this team,” he said. “It’s been an honour to be a Flyer for this long.”

Giroux, 34, has long been rumoured to be on his way out of town. Rumoured destinations have included the Colorado Avalanche and the Florida Panthers, both serious contenders who would get a boost from the veteran centre. But the comments by the Hearst, Ont., native appear to have shot down the speculation that he has asked for a trade.

Giroux was drafted by the Flyers 22nd overall in 2006 and was named captain on Jan. 13, 2013. On a bad Flyers team this season, Giroux has 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points in 45 games. In 988 career games, he has 289 goals and 606 assists for 895 points.
