Hurricanes sign forward Derek Stepan to one-year, $1.35M contract

The Carolina Hurricanes inked veteran forward Derek Stepan to a one-year, $1.35 million contract, the team announced Saturday.

Stepan scored one goal and added five assists in 20 games with the Ottawa Senators in 2021 before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery.

The 31-year-old from Hastings, Minn., was a second-round pick of the New York Rangers in 2008. Stepan has played 759 regular season games with 168 goals and 317 assists for 485 points over 11 seasons with the Rangers, Arizona Coyotes and Senators.

“Derek is an experienced two-way center who can play in all situations,” Hurricanes GM Don Waddell said in a press release. “We’re thrilled to add another veteran to our lineup.”
