Lightning, J.J. Moser avoid arbitration with two-year, $6.75M contract

Tampa Bay and defenceman J.J. Moser are making sure to get things started on the right foot.

The two parties came to terms on a two-year, $6.75-million contract — worth $3.375 million AAV — in order to avoid arbitration and get Moser’s Lightning tenure off to a strong start, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Thursday.

Moser, 24, was acquired by the Lightning in a blockbuster deal during the NHL Draft that saw long-time Tampa blueliner Mikhail Sergachev head to Utah in return for Moser, Conor Geekie and two picks.

A native of Biel, Switzerland, he picked up five goals and 21 assists in 80 games with the Coyotes last season. He has 16 goals and 56 assists over his three-year NHL career.

The defenceman was drafted 60th overall in the second round by the Arizona Coyotes in 2021 and played all three years of his career in the desert.
