Lightning sign Brandon Hagel to eight-year, $52M contract extension

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed forward Brandon Hagel to an eight-year contract extension worth $52 million, the team announced Tuesday.

The average annual value of the deal is $6.5 million and it will begin with the 2024-25 season.

Hagel registered career highs in 2022-23, with 30 goals, 34 assists and 64 points in 81 games. He also had five points in six games during the Lightning’s first-round matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Tampa acquired Hagel ahead of the trade deadline in 2022 from the Chicago Blackhawks in a deal that cost them a first-round pick in 2023 and 2024, plus prospects Taylor Raddysh and Boris Katchouk.

Hagel was originally selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the sixth round of the 2016 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut March 11, 2020 with Chicago and played parts of three seasons with the Blackhawks before joining the Lightning.

The 24-year-old has 64 goals and 132 points in 211 career regular season games.
