Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Timothy Liljegren exited Saturday’s game against the Nashville Predators after the second period with an upper-body injury.

Liljegren appeared to be hurt when he was checked into the end boards by Yakov Trenin.

After the Leafs’ overtime loss, coach Sheldon Keefe said there was no further update and that Liljegren will be re-evaluated when the team returns to Toronto.

Toronto already was short on defence with Jake McCabe sidelined with a lower-body injury.

The 24-year-old Swede has one assist in eight games this season.

Last year, Liljegren had six goals and 12 assists in 67 games.

The Leafs picked Liljegren 17th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft.
