Maple Leafs release Josh Ho-Sang from PTO; signs deal with Marlies

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Josh Ho-Sang (52) carries the puck as Ottawa Senators right wing Connor Brown (28) defends during first period pre-season NHL action in Ottawa on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021 (Sean Kilpatrick/CP).

The Toronto Maple Leafs have released Josh Ho-Sang from his professional tryout contract as the forward has signed a one-year deal with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.

As Sportsnet’s Luke Fox reports, by agreeing to an AHL deal Ho-Sang doesn’t need to pass through waivers and can sign him to an NHL deal if he gets promoted.

The 25-year-old joined the Leafs in an attempt to restart his NHL career after getting placed on waivers by the New York Islanders in January 2021. He spent the 2020-21 season in the Swedish Hockey League with Örebro HK and Linköping HC.

The Thornhill, Ont., native was selected by the Islanders 28th overall in the 2014 NHL Draft.
