The Toronto Maple Leafs will be wear a shoulder patch honouring former great defenceman Borje Salming, who died on Thursday.
The patch, which is a Maple Leafs logo with a yellow crown on top and “Börje” embroidered in yellow uppercase letters, is on the left shoulder of the team’s sweaters. The players were wearing the patch for Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Wild.
Salming starred for the Maple Leafs over 16 NHL seasons and was a trailblazer for Europeans who later made their mark in the world’s top pro hockey league, died at 71 after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
