Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon tests positive for COVID-19

Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Wednesday’s season opener against the Chicago Blackhawks.

General manager Joe Sakic says MacKinnon is not experiencing any symptoms.

Colorado’s superstar centre finished eighth in NHL scoring last season with 20 goals and 45 assists for 65 points in 48 regular-season games.

The Halifax native, 26, also chipped in eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 10 playoff games.
