The Edmonton Oilers are bringing back defenceman Slater Koekkoek on a two-year, $1.85-million contract, the team announced Thursday.

The deal carries an average annual value of $925,000.

Koekkoek, 27, put up a single point in 18 games for the Oilers after signing with the club prior to the start of the 2020-21 season.

The left-shot defenceman’s most productive NHL campaign came the year prior, when he recorded 10 points in 42 games during the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season.

Koekkoek, a native of Winchester, Ont., was selected 10th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2012 NHL Draft.
