The Edmonton Oilers have signed prospect Xavier Bourgault to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Thursday.

The Oilers selected Bourgault 22nd overall in the 2021 NHL Draft. This season, the 19-year-old forward has 26 goals and 25 assists through 31 games with the QMJHL’s Shawinigan Cataractes.

Bourgault played one game for Canada at the 2022 world junior hockey championships before taking a hard hit in the team’s opener against Czechia. Bourgault missed Canada’s second game of the tournament, which was then cancelled due to COVID-19.

The tournament is now scheduled to take place this August in Edmonton. Bourgault remains eligible to participate.
