The Pittsburgh Penguins have brought back forward Evan Rodrigues on a one-year contract worth $700,000.

Rodrigues, 27, returns to Pittsburgh after being dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the trade involving Kasperi Kapanen. The Maple Leafs did not extend a qualifying offer to Rodrigues, a restricted free agent, and so he hit the market on Friday.

Originally acquired by the Penguins from Buffalo in February, Rodrigues appeared in seven regular-season games for Pittsburgh last season, scoring one goal. In 38 games for the Sabres in 2019-20, the Toronto native recorded five goals and nine points.
