Luke Schenn is heading to the Nashville Predators upon signing a three-year pact with the club on Saturday.
Schenn’s new contract is worth a total of $8.25 million and carries a cap hit of $2.75 million. This marks a significant raise for the blue-liner, whose supporting role in Tampa Bay during the Lightning’s back-to-back Stanley Cup championships and strong performance with the Vancouver Canucks and Maple Leafs last season saw him revive his career. The 33-year-old bounced around the league following his first stint in Toronto and time in Philadelphia, and spent the last five years on short-term deals worth less than $1 million annually.
The rearguard brought plenty of sandpaper to Toronto’s blue line after being dealt back to his first hockey home at this spring’s trade deadline, and now takes that grit and veteran presence to a Predators club that’s bringing in plenty of youth.
Schenn is also joined in Nashville by a familiar face in Ryan O’Reilly, another Maple Leafs deadline rental.
