Ottawa Senators star defenceman Thomas Chabot is unlikely to play in the final four games of the regular season after leaving Monday night’s contest against Winnipeg Jets with an upper-body injury, according to head coach D.J. Smith.
Defenceman Josh Brown will also likely miss the rest of the season due to an injury.
Chabot left for the dressing room holding his left arm after taking a hit from Winnipeg’s Logan Stanley during the first period.
The 24-year-old has 31 points in 48 games this season, averaging 26:17 of ice time for second-most in the league.
Brown, who Ottawa traded for in October, has one assist through 26 games.
As replacements, rookie defencemen Jacob Bernard-Docker and Olle Alsing will draw in to the lineup Wednesday night when the Senators take on the Montreal Canadiens.
Bernard-Docker, a recent signee out of the University of North Dakota, played his first NHL game on April 14 against the Winnipeg Jets and hasn’t played since.
Alsing, 25, has yet to play his first NHL game. He has one assist in seven games with AHL’s Belleville Senators this season.
