Senators place star rookie Tim Stützle on IR with minor injury

Senators head coach DJ Smith says that rookie Tim Stützle is doubtful for Thursday's game, and explains why the staff will be extra cautious with him given his age, even though it's a very minor, but nagging injury.

The Ottawa Senators will be without rookie Tim Stützle for the third straight game after placing him on injured reserve Saturday.

Not much is known about the injury, with the team only saying it’s a minor one. Stützle practised with the Senators on Friday and indicated that he could return to the lineup against the Winnipeg Jets Saturday night, but that is no longer the case.

“It was great being back on the ice,” said Stützle, according to the Ottawa Sun. “I felt good today and it was much better than the days before so we’ll see what’s going to happen (on Saturday). It was really bad at the beginning, but I think it’s getting better day-by-day. It’s a typical day-to-day… (but) maybe I’m good to go. It’s up to the trainers and the physiotherapists and everybody else. It’s their opinion if I’m ready to go.”

He has one goal in two games this season.
