The Ottawa Senators have signed Alex Galchenyuk to a one-year, $1.05-million deal, the team announced Wednesday.
“Alex’s signing represents another good addition for us at forward,” said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion in a press release. “He’s versatile in that he can play both left-wing and centre. He’s gifted offensively, has been a solid power-play contributor and is a proven goal scorer in this league.”
A third-overall pick back in 2013, Galchenyuk spent the first six seasons of his NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens, amassing 108 goals and 255 points 418 games. His finest season came in Canadiens colours — a 30-goal, 56-point effort as a 21-year-old in 2015-16.
In June 2018, Galchenyuk was traded to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Max Domi. He put up 19 goals and 41 points through 72 games in his lone season in the desert.
One year later, in June 2019, Galchenyuk was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the deal that sent Phil Kessel to the Coyotes. Through 45 games as a Penguin, Galchenyuk posted five goals and 17 points, before he was traded to the Minnesota Wild in another multi-piece deal, which sent Jason Zucker to Pittsburgh.
Galchenyuk, 26, spent 14 games with Minnesota, posting seven points in that span.
Having signed a three-year, $14.7-million deal with Montreal in 2017, before his trio of trades, Galchenyuk became an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2019-20 campaign.
