The San Jose Sharks will hold its training camp in Scottsdale, Ariz., starting on Dec. 31, general manager Doug Wilson confirmed Sunday.
The move to Arizona is due to the enhanced COVID-19 guidelines for professional, collegiate and youth sports in Santa Clara County, Calif., which were recently extended to Jan. 8. The guidelines have also misplaced the San Fransisco 49ers, who will finish playing their home games in Arizona.
Wilson says the Sharks are hopeful to return for the start of the regular season on Jan. 13, but are unsure if it will be allowed.
As Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston reports, there is still a lot up in the air for San Jose for the upcoming season. According to Wilson, the Sharks may have to play out of a hub city or use another NHL team’s arena for games.
Earlier on Sunday, the NHL’s Board of Governors approved the agreement between the league and NHLPA for a 56-game 2020-21 season.
