Twitter Reaction: Canadiens, Devils get lucky in NHL Draft lottery

The Hockey Central panel discuss the Montreal Canadiens winning the first overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, the draft being held on the Canadiens' home ice, and potential top pick Shane Wright's fit in Montreal.

As the NHL Draft Lottery determined the order of who would pick first overall for the 2022 NHL Draft, many hockey fans and media members alike on the internet had their opinion on the process and how their favourite teams fared.

Before the draft even started, the signs pointed toward Montreal getting a special pick in honour of a special player, Guy Lafleur, who passed on April 22.

After the Canadiens did very much receive the first overall pick from the lottery, the reactions were mixed, some of joy that it would be the first time in 40 years they would pick first …

… while others recalled just how quickly the Canadiens changed gears for the worse from 2021 to 2022.

And while three Canadian teams are in the playoffs, others were watching to see their fate come July in terms of who they can add to their rosters.

Aside from the Canadian teams, many questioned how the New Jersey Devils received another top-two pick, while the Arizona Coyotes seem to have fared off worse in the lottery than they have on the ice.

Even the process as to how the lottery could take place was in question after the picks were revealed.

Overall, the consensus first overall pick Shane Wright came up many times as a potential future Canadien, but his heart is still with his current team, the Kingston Frontenacs.

The 2022 NHL Draft takes place starting on July 7-8 at the Centre Bell in Montreal.
