Sam Roberts is going to be a lot closer to his father for the rest of the season.
The Brantford Bulldogs have acquired the 2027 NHL Draft-eligible forward from the Oshawa Generals in exchange for four draft picks, the OHL team announced Thursday.
Former NHLer Gary Roberts, Sam's dad, is the Bulldogs' vice president of hockey operations.
Sam Roberts was picked in the first round (16th overall) by the Generals in last year's OHL Draft. He has three assists in seven games this season.
Roberts joins a Bulldogs team that is off to a 7-1 start despite losing six NHL first-round picks off last year's roster.
Noah Roberts, Sam's brother, previously played for the Bulldogs.
“We loved Sam throughout the draft process.” Bulldogs general manager Spencer Hyman said in a statement released by the team. “He’s a big, heavy power forward who can skate and score goals in the paint, and he has the ability to be a core piece of the Bulldogs now and into the future.
"He adds to our incredible 2009-born group, and we’re excited to watch them grow together for years to come. Beyond what he brings on the ice, Sam is an amazing human being, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the Bulldogs family.”
