Heads up, Doug Gilmour.
A Toronto Maple Leafs prospect is in striking distance of Gilmour's OHL record point streak of 55 regular-season games.
London Knights star Easton Cowan hit the 50-game mark with a power-play goal early in the first period against the Sarnia Sting on Friday, tying the game at 1-1.
Cowan, whose streak dates back to last season, has 12 goals in 14 games this season after notching another goal against Sarnia later in a 5-3 win. Gilmour set the record in 1982-83 with the Cornwall Royals.
Cowan's streak almost ended in the Knights' last game, but he scored an empty-net goal with 21.9 seconds left in London's 8-7 win over the Guelph Storm.
Cowan was the OHL's MVP of the regular season and playoffs last season, helping the Knights win the league title.
Because Cowan is only 19, he was not eligible to play in the AHL to start the season. The Leafs opted to return him to the junior ranks, where Cowan has picked up right where he left off last season.
Cowan, a first-round pick (28th overall) by Toronto in the 2023 NHL Draft, is expected to be a top player for Canada at this year's world junior championship in Ottawa.
