Canada’s Brady Leman, the reigning Olympic champion, was eliminated from medal contention in the semifinals of the men’s ski cross on Friday at the Beijing Games.
In a tight semifinal, Leman couldn’t hold on to second place and wound up last in the four-man field. Only the top two advanced to the A final.
A 35-year-old native of Calgary, Leman suffered a season-ending knee injury last year before returning for the start of 2021-22 and earning a World Cup silver on the same Secret Garden course used at the Olympics.
Three other Canadians — Kevin Drury, Reece Howden and Jared Schmidt — were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
The results prevented Canada from going 5-for-5 for medals in ski and snowboard cross events at the Secret Garden course.
Marielle Thompson won a silver in the women’s ski cross event on Thursday.
