It was a perfect day for Canadian curlers at the Beijing Olympics.
Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones (3-3) snapped a three-game losing streak with an 11-5 win over Russia’s Alina Kovaleva and then beat Great Britain’s Eve Muirhead 7-3, while Brad Gushue (4-2) of St. John’s, N.L., beat Italy’s Joel Retornaz 7-3 on Monday.
Jones has vaulted into a tie for fifth, with the top four teams making the semifinals after the nine-team round-robin.
Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni leads the way at 5-1, but suffered her first loss on Monday against Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg (4-2), who prevailed 6-5 in an extra end.
Against Great Britain, Jones scored three in the fifth end to take a 4-1 lead and held on the rest of the way.
Versus the Russians, Jones stole two in each of the first and second ends to put Canada up 4-0.

Jones returns to action on Tuesday at 8:05 p.m. ET against Tabitha Peterson of the United States.
Gushue, meanwhile, scored three in the ninth end against Italy to break open a tight game and provide the Canadians with the final scoring end of the contest.
Sweden’s Niklas Edin leads at 6-0. Gushue sits third.
The Canadians face China on Monday at 8:05 p.m. ET.
