Canadian Shady El Nahas lost his men’s judo 100kg bronze-medal match to Jorge Fonseca of Portugal at the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday.

The 23-year-old El Nahas finished the competition in fifth place. He defeated Israel’s Peter Paltchik in the men’s 100kg repechage to reach the medal event earlier that day, but ended up dropping the decisive match after allowing a waza-ari.

His loss marked the last judo match by a Canadian in the Tokyo 2020 Games.
