Canada's Skylar Park took advantage of her second chance.
Park won an Olympic bronze medal in taekwondo after winning a couple of fights in the repechage rounds on Thursday.
A 2-0 win over Lebanon's Laetitia Aoun sealed the bronze.
"I was really determined to still have a chance at a medal here," Park told reporters, per the Canadian Olympic Committee. "Once I found out i would have a chance in the repechage, it was full focus forward on getting that medal."
Park got a spot in the repechage when Kim Yujin advanced to the Olympic women's 57-kilogram taekwondo final. Hours earlier, the Canadian lost to the South Korean in a quarterfinal on Thursday. Park said that loss was "devastating."
Kim's semifinal win gave Park a back-door shot at a medal. The Canadian started the repechage by beating Turkey's Hatice Kubra Ilgan 2-0.
"I don't think it's fully sunk in yet," she said. "But when that final buzzer went off, it was just pure joy and gratitude for what we've been through as a team and my family and everything."
It was Canada's 21st medal at Paris 2024.
The Winnipeg native was seeded fourth in the competition.
Park beat Dominika Hronova of Czechia in the round of 16.
The Canadian won gold at the Pan American Games last year.
Park comes from a taekwondo family. Her father, Jae, is her coach and two of her brothers joined her in competing at the Pan Ams last year.
Canada hasn't won an Olympic medal in taekwondo since 2008.
