Canada has advanced to the semifinals of the women’s team pursuit long-track speedskating event at the Beijing Olympics.
Isabelle Weidemann, Ivanie Blondin and Valerie Maltais finished with the second-best time in the quarterfinals — two minutes 53.97 seconds — on Saturday.
Canada will face the third-place Netherlands in one semifinal on Tuesday, while top-seeded Japan takes on the Russians.
The Canadians lead the World Cup standings in this event, winning all three races this season.
Weidemann is looking for her third medal in Beijing after taking bronze in the 3,000 metres and silver in the 5,000.
