The United States is going with two of its biggest names to carry the flag at the opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics on Friday.
Team USA announced Wednesday that tennis star Coco Gauff will carry one flag on the Seine river. She joins Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who was announced as another flag-bearer earlier this week.
Gauff, 20, becomes the youngest opening ceremony flag-bearer in U.S. history. She is ranked second in the world.
Gauff was a late dropout from the Tokyo Olympics three years ago after testing positive for COVID-19. She wrote a letter to herself after that positive test, promising herself she would make the Olympics in Paris three years later. The letter was shared with NBC recently.
Gauff won her first Grand Slam title last year at the U.S. Open.
Canada is scheduled to announce its flag-bearers later Wednesday.
Watch the opening ceremony on Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET / 10:30 a.m. PT on Sportsnet or Sportsnet+.
