One of the best young players in the NHL is set to suit up for Sweden in Milan.
Team Sweden revealed its 25-man roster for the Olympic Winter Games on Friday, headlined by William Nylander of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Leo Carlsson of the Anaheim Ducks and Elias Pettersson of the Vancouver Canucks.
After finishing in third at the 4 Nations Face-Off in February, Sweden is bringing a mostly similar roster of skaters but made big changes between the pipes, with Filip Gustavsson being the only holdover alongside Minnesota Wild teammate Jesper Wallstedt and New Jersey Devils netminder Jacob Markstrom. Sweden had previously brought Samuel Ersson and Linus Ullmark.
Also joining the team after being left off during the 4 Nations will be Pontus Holmberg of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Gabriel Landeskog of the Colorado Avalanche, Alexander Wennberg of the San Jose Sharks and Philip Broberg of the St. Louis Blues.
Notably, Oilers defenceman Mattias Ekholm was left off the team in favour of former Oiler Broberg. Young Red Wings defenceman Simon Edvinsson also missed the cut.
Supplanting some of the younger players on the roster are some Team Sweden Olympic vets, as Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Erik Karlsson and Landeskog all represented their country at the 2014 Olympic Games when Sweden came away with silver.
