USA Hockey named David Quinn as the head coach and John Vanbiesbrouck as the general manager for the Olympic men’s hockey team on Monday.
The moves came a week after the NHL and its players withdrew from competing in the Beijing Winter Games due to COVID-19 concerns.
Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan and Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin were previously slated for the roles. Guerin was selected as GM after Stan Bowman stepped down in October following an investigation into sexual assault allegations with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010 that revealed he knew about the situation and did not report it to authorities.
Quinn coached the New York Rangers for three seasons starting in 2018 and accumulated a 96-87-25 record. He was fired by the Rangers in May after New York missed the playoffs.
The former netminder Vanbiesbrouck, who represented the U.S. at the 1998 Nagano Winter Games, was hired as assistant executive director of hockey operations by USA Hockey in 2018.
The Beijing Winter Games run Feb. 4-20.
