The Toronto Raptors are holding their breath as they await the tests results on a ‘strained adductor’ sustained by Jose Calderon during Spain’s quarter-final win over Croatia Wednesday.
Calderon left the court mid-way through the fourth quarter and did not return.
Raptor president and general manager Bryan Colangelo told the Toronto Star he was originally told by Calderon and his agent that the injury wasn’t serious, but that the 27-year-old Spaniard would have further treatment Thursday.
Spain will play Lithuania in the semifinals Friday.
"With respect to myself, my only concern is the small pull that I felt in the groin almost at the end of the game," Calderon said about the injury on his web site, josemanuelcalderon.com. "I feel a little soreness in the affected area, but until tomorrow I will not know the extent of the possible injury. We will have to wait a few hours to see how is the injury evolving, and depending on the results, we will know if I can play (Friday) or not."
According to a report in the Globe and Mail, the Raptors have no control over Calderon’s medical evaluation, or playing availability to Spain but the Raptors will have a member of the their medical staff speak with Calderon before Friday’s semi-final.
