Canadian Evan McEachran finished ninth in the men’s freeski big air final at the Beijing Olympics Wednesday.

The 24-year-old from Oakville, Ont., was second after an opening score of 93 points but was unable to match that performance in his other two jumps, finishing with a score of 115.5.

In big air, skiers jump three times with their best two scores being added together to produce their final total. McEachran’s career-best mark in the event was a fifth-place finish at the 2021 world championships.

This was the first time this event was contested at an Olympic Games. Norway’s Birk Ruud took home the gold medal, American Colby Stevenson grabbed the silver and Henrik Harlaut took home the bronze.

McEachran is expected to compete in slopestyle later in the Games, an event in which he placed sixth at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.
