TORONTO – Canada’s Nam Nguyen has left coach Brian Orser after a disappointing figure skating season.

The former world junior champion from Toronto is moving to San Jose, Calif., to train with coach David Glynn.

"After a difficult season of not achieving my goals I needed a fresh start," Nguyen said in a statement. "I am thankful for all that Brian and Ernest (Pryhitka) have taught me over my years with them."

Orser had coached Nguyen at the Toronto Cricket & Curling Club since 2012. Orser coaches numerous international skaters including Japan’s Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu and two-time world champion Javier Fernandez of Spain.

Nguyen, 17, was the world junior champion in 2014. He finished fifth at the 2015 world championships, but didn’t qualify for the free skate at the worlds last month in Boston, finishing 27th.

"After careful consideration and discussion with Nam’s parents, we believe a new start will be best for Nam. The move to David Glynn is a good fit," Orser said. "I wish Nam all the best and I am confident he will rise again."
