Men’s snowboard cross medal hopeful Baptiste Brochu’s time at the Olympics is over before it really even began.

The Saguenay, Que., native was injured during a training session Tuesday and has been forced to withdraw from competition at Pyeongchang 2018, Team Canada’s official public relations staff announced Wednesday.

“Brochu landed awkwardly in training and suffered a bone bruise and a small crack in the tibial plateau,” Team Canada PR added. “He was examined fully by Team Canada’s chief medical officer Dr. Bob McCormack and the decision was made in conjunction with Canada Snowboard’s medical staff.”

Brochu, 23, was one of a handful of Canadians set to compete in the popular snowboard cross event that got underway on Day 6 of the Games. Kevin Hill, Christopher Robanske and Eliot Grondin are the remaining Canadians scheduled to compete.
