BEIJING — Brian Johns of Richmond, B.C., set a Canadian record en route to qualifying for the final of the 400-metre individual medley Saturday at the Beijing Olympics.
Johns finished second in his heat in four minutes, 11.41 seconds, 1.08 seconds behind American Ryan Lochte.
Calgary’s Curtis Myden set the previous record at the 2000 Sydney Games in a bronze-medal performance.
The final takes place Sunday.
