Michael Phelps can’t be stopped. The swimming icon won another gold medal, reaching the top of the podium in the men’s 200-metre individual medley Thursday night.
Phelps becomes first Olympic swimmer to win gold in same event for four straight Games.
The 31-year-old now has 22 career Olympic gold medals. He won his 20th and 21st Tuesday when he finished first in the men’s 200-metre butterfly then led the United States to victory in the men’s 4×200-metre freestyle relay.
Phelps, the oldest swimmer in Olympic history to win gold in an individual event, has 26 total Olympic medals in his career with 15 of them coming in individual events. His 15 individual medals is also a new record.
Japan’s Kosuke Hagino won silver in the event and China’s Shun Wang took bronze.
