Penny Oleksiak gets shoutout from Drake on Instagram

Arash Madani tries to put a finger on the historic significance of Canada’s newest star, Penny Oleksiak, winning as many swimming medals in one week as the entire nation has won in the last four Summer Olympics.

Canadian swimmer Penny Oleksiak burst onto the Olympic scene this past week, winning four medals (and counting) in the pool.

And now she can add a shoutout from Drake to her whirlwind week.

Oleksiak replied to the post on Instagram, saying “no words right now, thank you so much”.

Her fandom for Drake became apparent earlier in the week when the Toronto native tweeted that she “May or may not have prayed to the 6ix god” before her silver medal swim in the 100-metre butterfly.

A couple days later, the 16-year-old phenom told the CBC’s Scott Russell that she listens to Drake to get pumped up for races. She also took to Twitter expressing disappointment that she and fellow Canadian swimmer Kylie Masse couldn’t get tickets to see him.

After all her success at Rio, Oleksiak should have no problem getting tickets now.
