SULPHUR, La. — Jennie Finch pitched a perfect game for the American women’s softball team, defeating Louisiana-Lafayette 2-0 on Saturday night during the pre-Olympic exhibition tour.

Finch struck out 10 and the Americans improved to 25-1 on their tour leading up to the Beijing Games.

“It was so much fun,” said Finch, a 2004 Olympic gold medallist who improved to 5-1 on the tour. “(Catcher) Nuvey (Stacey Nuveman) called an outstanding game and we really were in a groove.”

Finch threw a no-hitter April 11 against UNC-Greensboro.

The U.S. team got just four hits off pitchers Donna Bourgeois and Ashley Brignac, and scored its only runs in the fifth inning on an error by first baseman Gabriele Bridges.

Lovieanne Jung had two hits and scored one run for the U.S. team, which will aim for its fourth consecutive gold medal this summer.

On Tuesday, the Americans play at UCLA.
