Team USA makes easy work of Venezuela in men’s basketball

United States defeated Venezuela in Men’s Group A basketball competition.

Team USA made easy work of Venezuela in Olympic men’s basketball preliminary round action Monday.

Paul George led the United States in scoring with 20 points, while Jimmy Butler, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony and DeAndre Jordan also reached double figures in a 113-69 victory.

Toronto Raptors stars DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry finished with eight and five points respectively.

It was a predictably dominant performance from a team comprised of NBA stars.

Team USA, the gold medal favourites, beat China 119-62 in their tournament opener Saturday and now sit atop the Group A standings at 2-0. They have outscored their opponents 232-131.

Venezuela, meanwhile, is now 0-2 with a point differential of negative-68. They dropped their first game 86-62 to Serbia.

John Cox led Venezuela in scoring with 19 points Monday. Cox happens to be the cousin of NBA legend and two-time Olymic gold medallist Kobe Bryant.
