Austin Lemieux is into the big leagues — and a familiar number helped him get there.
The 30-year-old son of NHL Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux shot 66 to book a spot in his first PGA Tour event through Monday qualifying at the Bermuda Championship.
The PGA Tour fall series event begins next Thursday, but the qualifier was held in advance at a course in Florida to allow players to arrange travel plans.
A prolific player on amateur circuits, Lemieux won a Pennsylvania mid-amateur championship in September and captured a minor-league title earlier this month in Florida.
The Pittsburgh native, six-foot-four, previously played college hockey for Arizona State University.
Should Lemieux upset the field and win in Bermuda — as Canadian Corey Conners once did as a Monday qualifier in 2019 at the Valero Texas Open — he would earn a two-season exemption on the PGA Tour.
