Corey Conners is aiming to stage a comeback.
Canada’s top-ranked male golfer tells Sportsnet he is still “not quite” 100 per cent but is “hopeful and planning” to go to the Genesis Scottish Open after a wrist injury forced him to withdraw from the U.S. Open.
For now, he is also in the field for The Open Championship the week after at Royal Portrush.
Conners said he’s been hitting some balls over the last few days to test things out and has made some progress.
He withdrew from the U.S. Open prior to the fourth round at Oakmont Country Club and did not play at the Travelers Championship the week after, either.
Conners suffered an injury to his wrist on Friday at Oakmont but teed it up on Saturday and got off to an incredible start in this third round, going 3 under in his first five holes.
But he had a plugged lie in a bunker after his approach on the par-4 11th and although he managed to chunk it out, he immediately grabbed his wrist and called for a rules official as he asked for medical attention.
Conners received treatment from Canadian sports chiropractor Dr. Stuart Love on the 12th tee but would go on to shoot a 5-over 40 on his back nine.
His playing partner Saturday, Michael Kim, took to X (formerly Twitter) to write about his round – which he has done for basically each round through 2025 – and said, in part, that Conners was “obviously in some pain as soon as he hit” and Kim said he “didn’t think (Conners would) play more honestly.”
Conners was supposed to tee off at 10:20 a.m. ET for the final round Sunday but after an abbreviated warm up that included about a half-dozen pitch shots and two swings on the driving range, he realized he was unable to play.
It marked Conners’ first-career withdrawal.
Conners still sits No. 13 in the FedExCup standings thanks to five top-10 finishes so far in 2025.
He finished tied for 10th at the Scottish Open last year.
The final field for the event, which takes place at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, will be released at approximately 5 p.m. ET on Friday.
