Sudarshan Yellamaraju is making the most of his Players Championship debut.
The Canadian rookie shot a bogey-free 66 on Saturday to soar up the leaderboard, sitting 5-under for the tournament.
Yellamaraju's round was the lowest of the day at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., when he entered the clubhouse.
He was also leading all players in both strokes gained: tee to green and strokes gained: putting when he finished up on 18.
Yellamaraju, the 24-year-old born in India who lives in Mississauga, Ont., has enjoyed a strong first season on the PGA Tour after qualifying through the Korn Ferry Tour.
It's been a remarkable rise for Yellamaraju, who self-taught himself golf through YouTube and has still never taken formal swing instruction.
Through six PGA Tour starts, he's made five cuts, snagged two top-25 finishes and walked away with $358,940 in earnings.
Another strong round on Sunday, and Yellamaraju will only add to those totals.
