Jon Rahm will be looking for a second straight major tournament victory when he tees off on Thursday at the Open Championship as a strong +750 betting favourite at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Rahm claimed his first career major tournament win at last month’s US Open, and has finished among the Top-10 in each of this year’s three previous majors going into first-round action at the 2021 Open Championship at Royal St George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, England.
The 26-year-old Spaniard has been a steady presence near the top of the leaderboard all season long, finishing among the top ten in 11 of 18 PGA Tour events. Rahm was also steady at last weekend’s Scottish Open, shooting four rounds of sub-70 golf on his way to a seventh-place finish. However, things have not gone so well for Rahm at the Open, where he has produced just one top-25 performance in four previous appearances.
Further down the Open Championship odds at sports betting sites, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson sit second to Rahm at +1600 odds. A trio of golfers follow at +1800, including Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and Xander Schauffele, while Bryson DeChambeau rounds out the top of the board as a +2500 wager for this week.
Johnson will be aiming to regain the form that lifted him to the top of the World Golf Rankings after turning in disappointing performances at the first three majors of the season. The 37-year-old American was forced to settle for a share of 19th place at the US Open after missing the cut at both the Masters and the PGA Championship. Overall, Johnson has cracked the top ten just twice in 12 outings since winning the 2020 Masters, finishing 25th or worse on seven occasions during that stretch. He has also struggled in his pursuit of his first career win at the Open, failing to finish among the top 50 in his past three appearances.
Conversely, Koepka is poised to take the next step at the Open after finishing among the top ten in three of his past four appearances. However it has been feast or famine for the 31-year-old in 2021. Koepka has finished in the top five in three of his past six outings, including strong performances at the US Open and the PGA Championship, but he also missed the cut on three occasions during that stretch, including at this year’s Masters.
Elsewhere on the Open Championship betting lines for this week, reigning Open champion Shane Lowry trails as a +4000 wager, while Corey Conners leads all Canadians at long +12500 odds to claim victory at Royal St George’s Golf Club.
