April 18, 2019: Shocking Sweeps
April 18 2019

The Columbus Blue Jackets sweep the Presidents' Trophy winning Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Is it the biggest upset in professional hockey history? Is this good for the NHL? What do the Lightning do this off-season? Jeff and Elliotte unpack all this and more from the series that caught all of us off guard.

They also discuss how the Pittsburgh Penguins can bounce back after getting swept by the Islanders, the hiring of Alain Vigneault and Todd McLellan and Nazem Kadri’s suspension. Plus, they preview their interview with Paul Bissonnette (dropping next week) and take your #ASK31 questions.

April 15, 2019: Roster Building With Jason Farris
April 15 2019

Whether you’re putting together an NHL team or a fantasy squad — or in Jason Farris’ case, writing a book — constructing a roster is a fascinating exercise. The author, former Dallas Stars Executive VP and self-described hockey nerd, joins Jeff and Elliotte to discuss the making of “It Takes 23 To Win” which details the building of 24 historical teams by a group that includes four Hockey Hall of Famers and 12 Stanley Cup winners.

The trio also discuss Farris’ first book, “Behind The Moves” considered by many in the hockey industry a must-read for anyone who wants to better understand how NHL GMs tick.

April 10, 2019: Luck Of The Devils
April 10 2019

Jeff and Elliotte set up shop at the NHL Draft Lottery to talk to some of the GMs on site and discuss the latest news around the league.

They kick things off with Florida’s hiring of Joel Quenneville and what it means for the Panthers, look at coaching vacancies in Buffalo, L.A., Philadelphia and Edmonton, and address other league-wide news.

Then Panthers President of Hockey Ops, Dale Tallon, sits down to discuss Florida’s future; Sabres GM Jason Botterill talks about his head-coaching search, Jeff Skinner’s status and more; and Canucks GM Jim Benning gets into everything Vancouver. After that, the guys are joined by Devils GM Ray Shero and President Hugh Weber after winning the No. 1 pick to discuss what it means for the club and the whole lottery process.

April 4, 2019: The McDavid Fallout
April 04 2019

With Edmonton failing to clinch the playoffs (again), Connor McDavid didn’t hold back: “I’m not happy about it. It’s going to be a long summer.” Did the Oilers’ GMs search just become a little more complicated?

The CWHL has folded, leaving the NWHL as the lone women’s pro league in North America. But the intrigue continues around the future of the women’s game. Will CWHL players head south of the border? What’s next for the NWHL? Will the NHL start a league of its own? And when will any of those scenarios come to pass?

Jeff and Elliotte discuss those topics and much more, and answer #Ask31 questions.
